Why Scott Tech

Why buy through us instead of the manufacturer?

Because you lose nothing and gain three things. The equipment and the contract are the same. The price, the service, and the flexibility are better.

01 · PRICE

Same contract, often a lower price.

Cooperative contract prices are ceilings, not fixed prices. As an independent dealer, we have more margin flexibility than a manufacturer's direct sales branch, so we can often quote the same model, on the same NASPO ValuePoint or Sourcewell contract, for less.

02 · SERVICE

Local, factory-trained technicians.

Our technicians are trained and certified by Canon, Ricoh, and Brother, and they work out of our Rohnert Park service center, not a national dispatch queue. They know your buildings, your devices, and your staff, and they show up fast when something breaks.

03 · FREEDOM

The right brand for each job.

We're not a manufacturer, so we don't have one product line to push. We can mix Canon, Ricoh, and Brother devices, plus print and document software from PaperCut, uniFLOW, PrinterLogic, and DocuWare, into one solution built around your needs and your budget.

Cooperative contracts

Buy on a contract that's already been competitively bid.

Cooperative contracts let your agency skip running its own solicitation. A lead public agency already did the bidding. You choose the contract, we quote on it, and you issue a purchase order.

How a cooperative purchase with STG works

  1. Confirm your agency can use the contract. Most California public agencies can. For Sourcewell, membership is free and takes a few minutes. Check with your purchasing office on any local policy requirements.
  2. Tell us what you need. We'll review your current fleet and print volumes and build a solution that can mix brands and software to fit each site.
  3. Get a contract quote. You'll get line-item pricing on the contract you choose, with the contract number and everything your purchasing office needs to issue a PO.
  4. We deliver, install, and service. That includes network setup, user training, and ongoing service from our local, factory-trained technicians.

Local government FAQ

Cut the confusion: cooperative buying in plain language.

Straight answers to the questions purchasing, IT, and finance teams ask us most.

Can my agency buy from NASPO ValuePoint or Sourcewell without running its own bid?

In most cases, yes. California law lets local agencies use state contracts, including the NASPO ValuePoint California Cooperative addendum, and lets school and community college districts buy through other public agencies' competitively bid contracts. Sourcewell contracts are competitively solicited on behalf of its members. Your purchasing policy or local code has the final say, so check with your purchasing office.

Public Contract Code 10298–10299, 20118, and 20652.

How can your price be lower than the manufacturer's on the same contract?

Cooperative contract prices are maximums. Every authorized seller can quote at or below them. As an independent dealer, we have more margin flexibility than a manufacturer's direct sales branch, so we can often price the same equipment below what you'd pay buying direct. Ask us to quote side by side.

Does it cost anything to join Sourcewell?

No. Membership is free for eligible government, education, and nonprofit organizations, and there's no obligation to buy. Once you're a member, you can purchase on any Sourcewell contract, including Canon's and Ricoh's.

Can we mix brands in one solution?

Yes. Because we're not a manufacturer, we can put Canon, Ricoh, Savin, Brother, and HP devices together in one fleet, each bought on the contract that fits, with one service agreement, one point of contact, and one bill. We also integrate print management and document management software across brands.

Who services our equipment?

Our own factory-trained technicians, based at our Rohnert Park service center and covering Northern California. Outside our area, we partner or contract with Canon, Ricoh, and Brother, and through our partnership with Brother USA we can deploy and maintain print devices anywhere in the U.S.

Do you service equipment we already own?

Yes. We offer maintenance agreements and repair for existing copiers and desktop laser printers, so you can bring your whole fleet under one service plan.

How do you keep printing secure?

We set up access controls, hard-drive encryption and data overwrite, secure print release, and user-level audit trails to match your agency's security policy, and we handle device data at end of lease the way you require.

Does buying from STG help with small business or DVBE goals?

It can. STG is a California-certified Small Business and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (#16831). If your agency tracks SB or DVBE participation, or accepts state certification, an award to us can count. We can also serve as a DVBE subcontractor on larger projects.

How do I request a quote?

Call, text, or email us, or book a Teams meeting with David Scott. Tell us what you need and which contract you'd like to use, and we'll send a complete quote with the contract number on it.

Leadership

David Scott, President & CEO

A Marine who grew up in the copier business, and still runs it on a service-first promise.

His father, Giles Scott, a longtime copier technician and service manager, founded Scott Technology Group in Rohnert Park in 1995 on a simple promise: when your machine goes down, a technician shows up fast. David served in the U.S. Marine Corps infantry from 1999 to 2003, joined the company afterward, and in 2011 became majority owner and President & CEO.

Today he personally leads STG's public sector work, from contract quotes to fleet design. In one call he can show you which contract fits, how the pricing compares, and how our service will work for your sites.

Your community relies on your team every day. We bring the equipment, the service, and the dependability to support it.
